Filmic's Successor: New AGX View Transform in Blender 4.0

0

The news from Blender's upcoming 4.0 milestone keep coming, cementing how the massive improvements this release will bring. The latest addition is the successor to the venerable Filmic view transform, AgX!

This view transform promises to have some of the best performance yet, surpassing the old Filmic and Aces in many areas, including with great handling of saturated highlights, without the hue shifting issues with ACES and the Notorious 6 issue with filmic (more information on this on the feature's pull request, and check out Chris Brejon's deep dive for even more information on all these issues). Blender users have already started showing the incredible power of AgX in their tests:

AgX is now the default view transform, download Blender's latest daily build to test it out for yourself!
