BS Modify Pivot Add-on

We are happy to announc the release of our first Add On for Blender.

Many people, including ourselves, have asked how can they modify the pivot of an object, not just it´s location but also it´s orientation, this is something that is missed by some users, specially the ones that comes from other packages like 3ds Max or Maya, after looking for a solution we could not find any that could solve our needs so we created it.

Basically in 3ds Max there is a button called "Affect Pivot Only" wich allows you to change the object´s origin (or Pivot) without modifying the rest of the object itself, you just press that button and suddenly you can move and rotate the origin, and that is what we did, you just have to press a button and you can modify the pivot of the active object, you press another button and you commit those changes, easy peasy, the axis that you modify is a full object, so while you don´t press the commit button you can do whatever you want to it, it will not touch your original object and won´t modify a thing until you press commit.

    • Hi Jirih.

Nope, I'm sorry, this is an addon to relocate and orient the pivot of the object, but it's not dynamic at all, while you are perfoming the operation the BSAxis object does not have any real relation with the target object, it's just when you press commit when the pivot object gets modified.

      Cheers.

    • Glad you liked it :)

That is the idea, bring back those small bits that were useful while respecting Blender’s own way of work (wich is better I think).

      Cheers!

  1. Could this addon be also used to change the orientation of armatures in animatable/posable rigs? Say that I have one skeletal rig part that has an orientation in a different orientation than what I tried to work with, which that when it comes to attempting to change and or rotate the armature could end up either awkward or somewhat difficult.

    • So far I´m not sure how well it plays with armatures/rigs, I tried to change the pivot of a bone and everything worked fine, the only thing is that you ahve to press the button called "Delta To Transform" after the changes commit so the local manipulators works fine, apart from that I have not found any problem.

I also tried with an object with a child, and changing the pivot did not affect the scene at all, the child position was respected and the only thing that changed was teh parent pivot.

But in the end, try it by yourself and tell me if and how it works! :D

      Cheers and thanks!

  2. Also tried installing in 2.8 but cannot find the tool. My UI looks completely different from the Youtube video and as far as I know the tools panel that is mentioned in the video does not exist.
