If you need to capture a facial performance and apply it to a character with ARKit-based shape keys, there are plenty of solutions that use an iPhone. Solutions for Android and other cameras did exist but they were difficult to set up or the quality of the capture was very low.
Well, finally, there is an easy and high-quality solution that does not require an iPhone!
The tool you need to extract the facial animation is "Face Landmark Link". It's FREE (YAY!)To apply the resulting mocap to a character, you will need another addon in Blender. I use FaceIt (paid addon) because it speeds up every step of the process of facial rigging and mocap. But I also found a free addon called "Blender LiveLinkFace" which works well for applying the mocap data.
So the whole process can be done for FREE from start to finish. How cool is that?!
The full process, including tips on tweaking and improving the facial performance, are shown in this tutorial.
